Play Therapy

Play Therapy provides children with a safe, developmentally appropriate way to express thoughts and emotions that may be hard to put into words. Through guided play and creative activities, children are supported in exploring feelings, strengthening emotional regulation skills, and working through challenges such as trauma or stressful experiences, attachment or relationship concerns, behavioral difficulties at home or school, difficulties managing big emotions, and grief, loss, or major life transitions.

How play therapy helps your child or teen:

  •  Emotional Expression: Children can safely express feelings such as anger, fear, or sadness through play when words are difficult to verbalize.

  • Behavior Support: Play Therapy helps children develop stronger decision-making skills, reduce impulsivity or aggression, and improve self-control.

  • Healing and Coping: Therapy supports children as they work through trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and major life changes such as divorce or grief.

  • Social and Emotional Growth: Children build positive relationships, strengthen empathy, and improve communication and social skills.

  • Child-Center Play Therapy (Non-Directive): The therapist follows the child’s lead during play, creating a safe and accepting space where children can explore thoughts and feelings at their own pace.

  • Goal-Focused Play Therapy (Directive): The therapist may introduce specific toys, games, or activities to help children work on targeted goals, such as practicing social skills or coping strategies.

  • Therapeutic Tools and Activities: Sessions may include a variety of age-appropriate methods, such as:

  1. Art and drawing to express thoughts and emotions.

  2. Games, puppets, and role-playing to explore feelings and practice social interactions.

  3. Sand play and sensory activities to help process experiences.

  4. Creative games and visualization to build problem-solving skills.
